Create In California: Del Rio Farm Ride
A small group of cyclists pedaled from Rex Cycles in Midtown Sacramento, out about 12 miles to Yolo County"s Peabody Ranch/Del Rio Botanical for a private tour and lunch with every course, including the wine and goat cheese, made from ingredients on the farm.
Suzanne Ashworth is the owner and farmer at Del Rio Botanical, a 70 acre certified organic farm. Author of "Seed to Seed," now in its 7th printing, Suzanne boasts a collection of over 1600 varieties of seeds for vegetables and herbs, placing Del Rio Botanicals in the unique position to provide a selection of produce that is varied, rare and targeted to restaurants.
Suzanne and her staff pick, pack, and write recipes for her weekly CSA produce box, designed for people who love to cook and want organic, local, fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables. All of the products are designed to support the idea of food as medicine. From Arugula to Zizyphus, seasonal produce, picked the day of delivery, is not just a concept, but a reality.
Green Restaurant Alliance Sacramento (GRAS) is a coalition dedicated to growing a sustainable food community in California"s Capital City. Since 2012, over 150,000lbs of kitchen scraps have been to diverted
from midtown restaurants (most who purchase Del Rio Botanical produce) to the Earth Tub at HOT ITALIAN, then back to Del Rio Botanical in the full-circle compost program with Atlas Disposal.
