An Ohio Air Force veteran who was asked to remove his flag pole by his subdivision’s homeowner’s association because it didn’t meet the “community’s standards” was outraged that he would be asked to do so.
Wayne Marchant said he was given verbal permission by the HOA to install the pole after moving into the subdivision nine years ago, but received a letter last Friday asking him to remove or modify the pole to comply with regulations, WLWT reported.
“During a recent inspection, it was observed that a flag pole has been erected in your front lawn which does not comply with the community’s standards ... the structure needs to be removed or modified to meet applicable standards; and to ensure compliance,” the letter from Omni Community Association Managers LLC said, WLWT reported.
Another resident with a flagpole got a similar letter.
“As a veteran, I wouldn’t think to erect a flagpole and fly the American flag would be something that I have to get permission to do,” Marchant told WLWT.
He also wrote in a Facebook post that “hell will freeze over” before he removes the pole, Fox News reported. He asked readers of the post to share it if they think it is an outrage, and the post has been shared more than 6,000 times.
Marchant’s complaint has been referred to the HOA board for a final decision, WLWT reported.
The HOA rule says flag staffs must be affixed to a home, WLWT reported.
“I feel like it’s an attack on everybody’s patriotism, the love of their country,” Marchant told Fox19.
Twitter had nothing but support for Marchant.
If it’s been flying for 9 years how can they come in and change the rules? Doesn’t make sense

Time to move.

This HOA is out of line and demanding that a member who served our nation with honor take down his flag pole is an insult to that loyal service. What an utter disgrace and this HOA should be shamed for doing so!
