David Clarke to Newsmax TV: Trump "Will Prevail" at SCOTUS on Birthright Citizenship

Former Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke on Wednesday lauded President Donald Trump for his opposition to birthright citizenship for U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants, predicting “he’ll prevail at the Supreme Court.”

In an interview on Newsmax TV’s “America Talks Live,” Clarke asserted “this concept of universal birthright citizenship is a misinterpretation of the 14th Amendement.”

“The president is right on this, and is going to prevail at the Supreme Court level,” Clarke said.

“This mess, concept of universal birthright citizenship leads to chain migration,” Clarke added, saying Trump “is going to put an end to that too well.”

Clarke also weighed in on the more than 5,000 troops sent to the southwest border as a massive caravan of Central American refugees head to the United States to seek entry.

“As a force multiplier they"re going to be very important,” he said of the troops, noting “they they won"t be down there to enforce the law, making arrests, but if these numbers show up at the border all at once… it"s going to overwhelm the Border Patrol."

By tolerating Jeremy Corbyn, Labour’s moderates are complicit in their party’s shame

ANOTHER day, another figure in the Labour Party facing allegations of anti-Semitism. Today it is Ken Livingstone, who went on the BBC to comment on Jeremy Corbyn’s belated and reluctant decision yesterday to suspend Naz Shah, an MP who had suggested that Israel’s population be relocated to America. The former mayor of London, who is close to his party’s hard-left leader and was leading its review into foreign policy, claimed that this was not anti-Semitic and that Ms Shah is a victim of the “well-organised Israel lobby”. He then unburdened himself of the observation that Hitler was “supporting Zionism” before he “went mad and ended up killing six million Jews.”

Moderate MPs have a habit of responding to such incidents—whether related to the anti-Semitism now coursing through their party’s veins or to the broader chaos that has gripped it since Mr Corbyn became leader—by treating each as a separate case; part of distinct sub-problem or a piece of outrageous individual behaviour. With the exception of the pugilistic John Mann, who this morning confronted Mr Livingstone outside a television studio and called him a “fucking disgrace”, today was no exception: MPs lining up to issue limp tweets calling for the former mayor’s suspension. The party has just confirmed that this has taken place (raising the question: what do you have to do to be expelled from Labour these days?).

Too few are willing to face up to the reality that the wave of disgraces is one phenomenon, not many: a function, pure and simple, of Mr Corbyn’s leadership. A whole range of loony, self-destructive views and practices have thrived in the party since his win last September because his supporters, his advisers and the man himself have created an environment in which they can do so. His persistent failure to take on anti-Semitism is not some incidental quirk, like a stutter or an esoteric taste in music; it is fundamental to his leadership. The very essence of his politics is inflexibility about this sort of thing; one acquired over decades of brain-desiccating hours spent in lefty talking-shops where the same dusty people make the same dusty arguments and everyone agrees with everything else.

Most moderate Labour MPs, it is true, agree that he has to go. But now, they invariably insist, is not the time. Mr Corbyn has to fail on his own terms. The opposition needs time to gather its forces. The membership is still too Corbynite (some polling suggests the Labour leader would do even better in a new contest than he did last September). Some even suggest that he can be coaxed out, perhaps replaced by a compromise candidate somewhere between his positions and good sense. Virtually no one entertains the possibility that their party’s past cycle of electability and unelectability is not a law of nature.

This reeks of cowardice. There is little evidence that the party will become less Corbynite over time. John McDonnell, more or less as bad as Mr Corbyn, is preparing to take over if the current leader goes. With every day, the chances of the party ever recovering its credibility and integrity disappear further into nothingness. And with every incident, like today’s pantomime, that moderates excuse by the meagreness of their criticism and their refusal to acknowledge the systematic crisis engulfing their party, their right to our pity over Labour’s self-mutilation diminishes.

Joe Haines, Harold Wilson’s former spin doctor and a man with more historical perspective than most, gets this. In an article for the New Statesman in January he described the curious stupor in which Labour’s moderates seem to be suspended as the “Micawber Syndrome”: the vain and self-effacing hope that “something will turn up”. He urges them to declare unilateral independence from Mr Corbyn’s sorry excuse for a Labour Party, sit separately in the Commons and proclaim themselves the true heirs of the party’s progressive tradition.

Put this to moderates and the heartier ones admit that it is an option, but not for now. The more common, more watery reply usually involves sappy formulations about “not abandoning the party I love” and “staying to fight”. I suspect these are part-sincerity and part-unwillingness to risk their own jobs and confront the onerous task of building a new infrastructure. Tellingly, one party insider sympathetic to this view suggests that MPs would only move against Mr Corbyn if they faced losing their seats to deselection or election defeat. Some principle, that.

The truth is that Labour is dying, and every MP who thinks she can wash her hands of responsibility for that with the odd disapproving tweet has another thing coming. Today’s fracas will repeat itself, in slightly different forms, again and again, burying any scraps of self-respect (let alone electability in the next decades) the party has left. Perhaps there is a case for not rocking the boat before the European referendum. But then moderates must move to oust Corbyn. If they fail, they should proceed with the Haines solution. I see no good reason why if, say, 100 MPs and a sizeable minority of members quit and set up a Labour Party with integrity, they could not give the Conservatives a run for their money in 2020. This would not be “abandoning” their party. But staying put would be.

Pumping the legs in this video featuring the form master, my mentor, @sionetopuipulu. I literally started a 7 day trial at my cousin"s gym to record this video lol.

Main focus of this video was to make it known to all you lifters that you DO NOT to lift heavy weight EVERY session. The aim of muscle hypertrophy is to stimulate the muscle fibres NOT annihilate the muscle fibres.

In our workouts we focus on both hypertrophy and strength i.e. 2 top sets where we go fairly heavy for 4-6 (maybe 7-8) reps, and then we drop the weight down for 2 backdown sets where we focus on more hypertrophic tension rather than strength (at least 10 reps)

But always remember, FORM FIRST, EGO LAST

The Editors: iPhone and iPad app update

On Tuesday we are releasing an update to the BBC News iPhone and iPad app in the UK designed to make the app faster and more stable, with bigger, better quality images on the home screen.

We are busy doing some research and thinking at the moment about what people are looking for in our News apps in the longer term, but we thought that in the meantime, it was important to fix one or two bugs affecting some users of the existing app and to make it a better, slicker experience overall.

We want to make sure the current app remains a great way to get a quick overview of the top stories across a wide range of subjects, easy-to-scan on a mobile and, once the stories have loaded, handy to read offline too.

So, it will now be quicker to start up the app and to update it, and it should feel smoother and faster as you scroll and swipe through the screens and stories.

The larger homescreen images we"ve introduced serve two purposes:

first, you can see what"s in them more clearly and there"s more room for the headline
second, their positioning makes it clearer that you can scroll horizontally in each news category to reveal more stories (we noticed that in user testing some people assumed there were only three stories a section).

There is a new layout on iPad when you view the home screen in portrait mode - designed to show more headlines and make it easier to find the stories you"re interested in.

Among the bugs that we"ve fixed is an issue that sometimes caused the app to get stuck when updating, and another where you sometimes saw duplicate stories within a single news category.

For our product team, these improvements required a fairly major reworking of the app"s code. The good news is that they are now working from a more stable base which can be built on with new features and functionality. This revising of our code is something we"ve already done with our Android app, so we"ll now be able to release upgrades simultaneously on both iOS and Android, which are by far the largest mobile platforms for us in terms of users. This latest update is already available internationally.

If you"re a user of the app, or decide to try it out, we hope you"ll like the improvements we"ve made. And as we think about our apps generally and plan our next steps, we"d like to hear about what you"d most like to see in future.

California has handed Waymo the first permit to test fully driverless cars in the state.

While Waymo, part of Google"s parent company Alphabet, has been allowed to test autonomous vehicles with a driver since 2014, the new permit allows the company to test cars without drivers.

Waymo will be allowed to test its three dozen driverless cars on public roads, including freeways, highways and streets.

Testing will take place near Waymo headquarters, with permission to drive in Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Sunnyvale, in Santa Clara County.

The blue spot is where Waymo is permitted to test driverless cars.

The company can test day or night, in fog and light rain conditions, and will be able to go on roads with a posted speed limit of up to 65 miles per hour (104 kilometers per hour).

"California has been working toward this milestone for several years, and we will continue to keep the public’s safety in mind as this technology evolves," California Department of Motor Vehicles Director Jean Shiomoto said in a statement.

Waymo will initially only let members of its team ride in its driverless cars, but will eventually allow the public to experience them, as it"s done so in Arizona with the early rider program.

Since April, California has had regulations allowing companies to test cars without drivers on its roads, with the likes of Uber and Tesla set to join the fray.

A DMV spokesperson said one other company has submitted an application for driverless car testing, but it was returned because it was incomplete. There are currently 60 manufacturers allowed to test autonomous vehicles in California with a safety driver.

Driverless cars have been in the works for years, and it"s now just around the corner for Californians.

“We Are the Nerds” is most compelling when it tells the story of a third young man who played a founding role at Reddit. Aaron Swartz was brilliant, troubled and impossible, but he saw the tech economy more clearly than well-medicated people. “In the old days the new money was made through theft and abuse of office,” he wrote. “Now any random computer programmer — or even the people who hung around them — could find themselves saddled with a pile of cash.” In early 2013, hounded by the government over a stupid stunt involving the downloading of academic journals, Swartz committed suicide.

Reddit became so offensive it was difficult to work there. A community manager who had a brief tenure in 2015 told Lagorio-Chafkin some of the reasons: “Child molesters, child porn, vicious stalking, rape threats, serious harassment, people taking the harassment offline and people filing police reports on each other.” One chief executive, stressed beyond endurance, simply stopped showing up for work. His replacement, Ellen Pao, tried to impose order in the office and on the site. The backlash led to her abrupt departure. Huffman returned and purged most of the staff.

The charismatic Ohanian came back as well, trying a few Reddit spinoffs that fizzled. He is best known now for being Mr. Serena Williams. I wondered if any of his new relatives ever asked him about the popular subreddit called CoonTown — you can guess the contents — but “We Are the Nerds” is silent on this. CoonTown was finally banned by Reddit in 2015.

While writing this review, I poked around Reddit. I saw some naked women, read some unusual opinions (“Just ignoring all the horrific atrocities caused by the Nazis, the Nazi flag actually looks pretty decent”), had a few laughs at youthful sexual confessions. It was pretty benign. Maybe the site is no longer so toxic, or maybe the toxic internet has made me numb.

I also saw a lot of ads. Reddit is worth about $2 billion, which means Advance Publications, the parent of Condé Nast and now Reddit’s biggest investor, made good money. In Silicon Valley, that’s still pretty much all that matters.
