Delta Is Offering Discounted Business Class Award Tickets To Europe

Delta offers a monthly SkyMiles flash sale, and they just shared the details of their latest one. Often these sales are just for domestic economy travel, so this one is pretty exciting, since it’s for longhaul international business class travel. Hopefully some of you can take advantage of this one.

Through this flash sale you can book roundtrip business class award tickets on Delta between the US and Europe starting at just 98,000 SkyMiles. The basic terms are as follows:

  • Book by 11:59PM PT on Thursday, December 14, 2017

  • Travel between February 1 and May 21, 2018

  • Roundtrip travel is required

  • Only valid for travel on Delta “metal” between the lower 48 and Europe

According to Delta, this sale is valid for travel in the following markets:

BelgiumIreland
• Brussels (BRU)• Dublin (DUB)
Czech Republic• Shannon (SNN)*
• Prague (PRG)*Italy
Denmark• Rome (FCO)
• Copenhagen (CPH)*• Milan (MXP)
France• Venice (VCE)*
• Paris (CDG)Portugal
• Nice (NCE)*• Lisbon (LIS)*
Germany• Ponta Delgada, The Azores (PDL)*
• Duesseldorf (DUS)Spain
• Frankfurt (FRA)• Barcelona (BCN)
• Munich (MUC)• Madrid (MAD)
• Stuttgart (STR)• Malaga (AGP)*
• Berlin (TXL)*Switzerland
Greece• Zurich (ZRH)
•  Athens (ATH)*United Kingdom
Holland• Edinburgh (EDI)*
•  Amsterdam (AMS)• Glasgow (GLA)*
Iceland• London-Heathrow (LHR)
• Reykjavik (KEF)

As a point of comparison, ordinarily Delta charges 70,000 SkyMiles for their cheapest one-way business class awards, so this is a significant discount over their normal pricing, so assuming you can find eligible flights, this is like saving 30% on a business class award.

This is definitely a good use of SkyMiles, given that they’re getting less valuable. However, there are plenty of loyalty programs where this is close to their regular price. If you already have SkyMiles then by all means redeem this way, but before you transfer Amex Membership Rewards points (for example), consider the other options. Aeroplan charges 55,000 miles for one-way business class to Europe, and if you book a roundtrip they’ll even allow two stopovers, so for many that could be a better value.

Still, if you have SkyMiles and are thinking of going to Europe in the spring, this is a great opportunity.

Does anyone plan on taking advantage of this SkyMiles flash sale?
