Draw Tip Tuesday - Sunny Side Up
Welcome to draw Tip Tuesday!
Today we’re doing a quick food drawing. I will be using rusty brown chalk pencil, a brush and watercolors and water.
Do you like eggs?
I sure do!
Not just to eat them, but also to draw them!
A fried egg has a few recognizable characteristics: the yellow of the yoke, the white around it, and the organic shape of it. It’s easy to draw, and fun too.
When I fry an egg, I like the yoke to be runny, and the sides of the egg white a little bit crunchy! So I draw some extra brown around my wobbly egg white shape, to create that crusty look. Also, I add a little bit of shading on one side of the egg yoke, to create a bit of depth. Then, that egg white is never perfectly flat like this is it, so I add a few scribbly bits to create a bit of texture.
Then, I pick up some yummy yellow from my palette, not too diluted because I want that yellow to shine, and color my drawing. Just the egg yoke. And I leave a bit of white to create a highlight on the shiny yoke. There we go. Let’s give it more of a solid look, by adding a small cast shadow here. The shadow on the yoke is on the left side, so the light comes in from the right - and the cast shadow will be on the left.
I see some space that needs to be filled here on the right. So let’s add a fitting and happy souring text in fun lettering.
