Steve Hoskinson - Organic Intelligence
This took place on January 16, 2015 and is a part of the of the ongoing Masters in Counseling Keynote Speaker Series.
Therapists commonly oversimplify how to work with a complex system such as our nervous system. And "pendulation" is too often reduced to activation-deactivation, or activation-discharge, completing incomplete defensive responses, etc. Sessions which may feel good to the client may actually fail to help organize their system, or worse...An addiction to intensity is often accompanied by "resourcing" or other directives: "feel your feet", "track your activation", "go to your resource", etc. Such directives have a place, but ultimately will fail to yield a system that is self-organizing because the complexity of our biology defies simplified recipes for intervention. Steve Hoskinson teaches how to recognize what support is needed--and what "support" is NOT needed--based on the biological state in the moment. Simple, but not simplistic, this webinar you can take your SE practice to the next level with key ideas like:
Protocol: The first step is the last step (Orientation)
· "Reading" nervous systems states
· Why a focus on discharge decreases your effectiveness
· self-regulation versus SELF-regulation
· The "Whys" and "Hows" of The Free Association Conversation
· What systemic coherence looks like (and why it"s Blue!)
